Usually, I am careful about publishing letters/incidents like the one sent to me by ARUN
[given below in the post ‘Are we still living in the stone age?’]. He never mentioned his hatti and the country he is living in….…………..Unfortunately, now I am told that there is a BIG TWIST to the story. ……….. I also understand that she would not participate in other functions of the hatti and during funerals, she would not take part but lock herself in……
As I have mentioned elsewhere, I am a proud Hindu. And the customs followed by most of the hattis during the funerals, is based on Hinduism.
In my opinion, it is nice of Arun’s hatti elders to forgive the past mistakes and give a decent burial to his mother AS PER BADAGA RITES though there was considerable delay.
I stand corrected for my earlier opinion and am sure Dr.Rajkumar and Dr.Mahesh would share my sentiments. I have with-held some more comments.
Arun, I know that you live in NZ, and if you want to clarify please do so.

My sincere apologies to Arun’s hatty people and other commentators and readers of this website. I think it would be very helpful if Arun came forward with the true version of events.
For people who choose to marry non-badaga people, they must understand that they have to embrace the badaga way of life for any chance to be accepted in the community especially in relation to hatty matters. -

Arunkumar | 29/03/2013Hatti people were so kind in giving a decent burial…Personally I would not like religious conversion. Converted Badagas are no more Badaga as they donot follow any of our traditions………its my opinion.. depends on individuals anyway.

Let us not dig up further. It will be better to convene some useful meetings amongst us to discuss further on these issues for the betterment of our community. Let us work together.

My deepest condolence to Mr. Arun. Being from one of the most orthodox of all hattis ‘Peddhuva’ I can understand your feelings as I know people who have married non-badagas and facing such kinds of problems.
As Wing Commander Bellie Jayaprakash said we are living in a stone age. Despite of people being educated they are still primitive in their thoughts. As of what I know, the caste system should have been started by the Aryans since they wanted to dominate and hold high ranks in whatever they do (like the jews of Jerusalem do). Marrying a badaga girl would have been sane some centuries back as each community was isolated and when there was no space for any interaction. But now everybody started moving out of their hattis and started interacting with other people.
It is natural that some body falls in love if he/she finds somebody in his/her frequency . May be at 24 I am not matured enough to say this but still if you want somebody to marry a badaga, get back to your hattis and let your kids to farm. People say that our DNA matches with those of Punjabis and Central Europe. I do not want to debate much about this but just want to remind people about what our origin is. I personally feel that separating two hearts who are ready for any sacrifice amongst themselves is a sin. People are ready to commit these sins just for the sake of hesuru and prestige. Aint it a shame from the parents side to this.
One of my aunts said that koono kuridiyo onthu badugu henna mathuvai maadu. Ayyana hesura kedasa beda. Do they think that we are the purest of bloods? Come on, you cant be like this for ages to come. You want their akki to eat and their land to build homes (in Coimbatore) but it is a sin if you marry a non badaga. This is insane. Although, people in the hattis have a point to make as they think our traditions will degrade if other community people mingle with us, people from the elder generation who can understand the problem should arrange for a kootu and discuss it with Gowders and arrive at a solution for this.

Many peopple who migrated from nilgiris often forget our religion ,customs culture and everything just because of money and everything.And they feel only after they met such bad incidents,they start to think our culture.I ADVICE TO SUCH PEOPLE WHO OFTEN FORGET THEIR RELIGION CASTE FAMILY AND EVERYTHING, “PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU LEAP.DONT BLAME PARTICULAR RELIGION JUST BECAUSE OF YOUR BLUNDER BLIND JUSTICE“.
