What impressed me most about Dr. Rajammal – Manju
This is a real-life inspirational story of a National Awardee Dr. R. Rajammal (India). She was born in a remote village in the Badaga Community. Against all odds, she achieved success after escaping from a child marriage. She became the first lady from her village to go to college. She is the first lady from the Badaga Community to secure National Award for Best Teacher (India). She was ridiculed as a child as she was a bit dark-skinned. She fought discrimination with determination, turned pain into power and after attaining success, she did not forget to help others. She is an ardent social worker and is now living in Sarvalayam (a home for orphans and destitute elders), mentoring the youngsters and serving the elderly. She is very kind & empathetic. She believes in the Joy of Giving.

The Lady with the MAGIC Lamp –
Biography of Dr. R. Rajammal by Dr Aswathy Rajan & Mrs Manju K Manohar .
I am not able to imagine a better title for the biography of Dr R Rajammal than the Lady with the MAGIC Lamp. As the title suggests, Dr R Rajammal is still carrying the MAGIC Lamp with her to enlighten lives around her , wherever she is , with her knowledge , expertise , kindness , and with whatever she is bestowed with by the Almighty . An epitome for giving back to the Society, she continues to carry the baton for the unconditional service to mankind.
Great people remember those who lifts them in Life but fail to remember the magnitude of travails they have faced. Likewise, Dr R Rajammal had brought out the all the memories of the people who were behind her during the milestones of her arduous journey . Minimal detailing of the intensity of her difficulties and emotional overtones facilitates the reader to get into her shoes to envisage what may have happened in each and every phase of her life and the endurance she has exhibited in overcoming them.
Her Pearls of Wisdom itself gives a full perspective of what she is made up of. The testimonials from those who have made a difference to her as well as from those to whom she has made a difference are definitely jewels in the crown.
The book adopts a simple language , lucid on explanations and so it encompasses children too under its readership ambit. Dr. R. Rajammal is an inspiration to many and so shall be her biography for getting inspired.
